Back in March, when I set about to create a new online store for the body of work my mother began more than fifty years ago, I had no idea that the release of this new site would coincide with her likely release from this earth. I also didn’t know that this effort would morph into, not just a new “storefront,” but, an entire relaunch of The Personalities—including a brand-new online Personality Profile.
My mother’s work on The Personalities, as the topic has become known, began when she invited a handful of couples into the living room of my childhood home to discuss their individual personalities. From that point 53 years ago, Florence Littauer has traveled the globe speaking to audiences in churches, schools, and businesses. She’s written more than 40 books—most of them, at some level, addressing The Personalities—with Personality Plus being her best-seller.
On April 27, 2020, Florence Littauer turned 92. Despite COVID-19, we celebrated her life with three days of parties (Photo above is from the birthday dinner party). To participate in the festivities, my sister, Lauren Littauer Briggs, flew from California to Lubbock, Texas—where my mother has lived with me, and I have cared for her, since June of 2018.
Sometime during the night of May 16, Florence Littauer had a stroke. She spent one week in the hospital and, now, three weeks in rehab. She’s had good days (where I thought she could recover fully) and bad days (where I was sure this was the end). Unfortunately, as of June 9, there have not been enough good days, nor are they consistent enough, that I am confident she will pull through this—but she has surprised us before.
If you know Florence Littauer personally, you know she’d want people to remember her as the strong, dynamic, and colorful presence she was for all of her public career.
As I have spent the previous 4 weeks sitting by her bedside, holding her hand, encouraging her to participate in physical therapy, and trying to cajole her to eat something, I’ve also (while she napped) been on the computer working with the designer who has created something bigger and better than I could have imagined: ThePersonalities.com. It is my hope that this new online store/Personality Profile will introduce Florence Littauer’s work to a whole new generation, that her legacy will live on. Like my mother, the new site is strong, dynamic, and colorful.
I believe the best way we can honor her is, for each of us who have been touched/impacted by her/her life’s work, to keep her teaching alive by introducing it to a new generation. To make that easy for you, I have digitized her classic presentation “The Best of Personality Plus” and am making it available—FREE—for you to share on all of your social media platforms. Please spread this link: https://thepersonalities.com/the-best-of-personality-plus.
I hope you will join Florence’s family and friends as we pray for God’s will in her current health crisis. My siblings and I know that quality of life is more important to her than quantity—and she has had a long and fruitful life. We pray that we do not have to make a decision. We know that, whether it is next week, next month, or next year, the Good Lord will welcome her with these words: “Well done my good and faithful servant.”
